Five distinct personal orientations are considered based on a review of the stress literature: self-image, locus of control, interpersonal orientation goal orientation, and time orientation. The results show that the five personal orientations are directly and, to some extent, differentially related to the clusters of symptoms. These findings confirm the importance of considering the direct effects of individual characteristics in stress research. Lafferty, J. Clayton and Colletti, Lorraine F.
