This article reports the results of a study investigating the relationship of personal orientations to symptoms of strain. In contrast to previous research that viewed personality orientation as a moderator of the impact of life events on strain, this study investigated the direct effect of personal orientations on symptoms of strain. The article stresses that managerial effectiveness requires a healthy self-concept.
