Suggestions for building leadership effectiveness

To have a constructive impact on others, concentrate on the more prescriptive aspects of role modelling:

  • Seek feedback on your own behaviours to see if they are consistent with those you wish to display. The Life Styles Inventory diagnostic tool is ideal for this.

  • Think carefully about the behaviours you want to build in your people. Define them for yourself - avoid clichés - operationally define what you would observe in the behaviours of others that indicate the behaviour is being used.

  • Never underestimate the extent to which, as a leader, you are a role model. You are in effect, like an actor on a stage - you are judged by every performance, not just the ones you want to be judged upon. How you behave sets the scene for what behaviours are acceptable and become the norm.

Organisational Culture and Leadership Styles Research Results

In addition to presenting new research around the Leadership/Impact tool, this book also updates the Organisational Culture results from Human Synergistics' 2001 publication and updates the Leadership Styles results from our 2002 publication. The results are broken down into industry groupings to show differences across different types of organisations.

The culture data is derived from over 900 Australian and New Zealand organisations and the leadership styles data includes data on over 45,000 individuals in leadership and managerial positions.

This book differs from the previous publications because this is the first book that brings the leadership and culture data together. This is the second way we link leadership and culture.
